Youth Transportation Safety

The mission of the Youth Transportation Safety program is to develop and deliver the nation’s most comprehensive suite of transportation safety programs and projects dedicated to saving lives and reducing injuries of America’s youth.

U in the Driver Seat promotes peer-to-peer education among university students on the risks of impaired driving. U in the Driver Seat seeks to give college students the tools and information in order to help them educate one another about the dangers of driving, which often include driving under the influence. UDS allows students the unique opportunity to tailor the program to their college’s cultural and environmental needs.

Teens in the Driver Seat is working to lower the number of car crash fatalities and injuries by utilizing the powerful voices of teens. Teens help shape the program and are responsible for implementing it in their schools and communities to help educate peers and parents about driving risks and Graduated Driver Licensing laws that help keep teens safe.

Teens in the Driver Seat Junior High is aimed at younger students and recognizes that before teens can drive a car themselves, they play a significant role in promoting safe driving to their older peers. They can even remind their parents what it means to be a model driver by promoting safe driving as a passenger. Empowering this age group to speak up for their safety is one goal of this program.
