You Can Make a Difference
in the new
Texas Strategic Highway Safety Plan!

The 2017 Traffic Safety Conference is your chance to help shape the Texas Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP).

This year’s conference is designed to give you the opportunity to learn about and participate in the development of the SHSP. The SHSP will set the priorities for improving traffic safety in Texas in the near term.  The intent is to develop a state plan that all safety professionals, of all agencies and groups, can support, be part of and take action on.

Therefore, we’ve designed the conference around the emphasis areas selected by the SHSP Executive Team:

The Conference will be organized into three stages.

Stage 1 will feature a round robin of briefings and input on each emphasis area by subject matter experts. Every participant will have the opportunity to learn about the crash stats, strategies and countermeasures for each emphasis area. You’ll also have the chance to provide input on the countermeasures you believe should be prioritized. It will be a fast-paced and active event.

Stage 2 will feature a facilitated discussion of the emphasis areas. You’ll be able to select which of the emphasis areas you are most interested. We’ll discuss the results of the initial ranking of countermeasures from Stage 1, discuss the effectiveness, practicality and actions necessary to implement the countermeasures and reset the priorities. Stage 2 will occur in two phases, so you’ll be able to attend two different emphasis area sessions.

Stage 3 will bring us all back together to hear reports from each emphasis area session, and to discuss future actions. The conference results will be an important input into setting the final strategic plan.

Please bring your valuable insight and safety ideas to a make a difference!
