Oct. 14-20 National Teen Driver Safety Week

October 15, 2012

October 14-20 is National Teen Driver Safety Week. Since 2007, the nation has dedicated a week in October to bring awareness to the number one cause of teen deaths in America – car crashes.

More than 3,000 teens die each year in car crashes. Education, awareness, stronger laws and law enforcement are all necessary to combat the problem, and National Teen Driver Safety Week is a great place to start. For Teens in the Driver Seat® (TDS) program schools, the week is the perfect time to bring awareness to the five major dangers of teen driving by highlighting one danger per day, which are:

  1. Driving at night or being tired
  2. Speeding or street racing
  3. Distractions (talking/texting on a cell phone, too many teen passengers, changing the radio, etc.)
  4. Not buckling up
  5. Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol

TDS is also hosting daily contests this week on their Facebook page. Log on, like the page, and compete daily!

Visit the Teens in the Driver Seat website to learn how to get the program started at your school.
