North Dakota bans texting while driving

April 27, 2011

On April 26, North Dakota became the 31st state to ban texting while driving. The law will go into effect August 1, and will carry a fine of $100 for those caught texting while driving.

On his blog, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said, “North Dakota roads will be safer for everyone as a result, and I can’t think of a more fitting outcome for Distracted Driving Awareness Month.”

In Texas, texting while driving is banned for drivers who are under the age of 18. The law went into effect September 1, 2009.
